Fisker is finally starting deliveries of its Karma luxury plug-in hybrid sedan later this month –and the lucky person to get the first car will be none other than Hollywood star Leonardo di Caprio (....the spicy female model featured in the firm's print advert is not included with the car).
The company says it has already received 3,000 pre-orders with the waiting list reaching until early 2012. Other famous customers for the $100,000 hybrid sports sedan are former US Vice President Al Gore and former National Security Advisor and Secretary of State Colin Powell.

The Karma is the work of former Aston Martin designer Henrik Fisker, who founded his own company.

It is built around a spaceframe chassis made of aluminium and it features a battery pack placed in the middle and two electric motors at the back, as well as a gasoline 260HP 2.0-liter turbo four up front which acts as a generator for the battery when it needs charging.

Production of the Karma has started at ValmetΆs plant in Finland, at an initial rate of just five cars per week. This rate will rise to 300 cars per week in November, and Henrik Fisker estimates that his companyΆs customers “are split 50:50 between early-adopting car enthusiasts and total non-car enthusiasts who just like that we are bringing something totally new to the market”.

Fisker plans to add to KarmaΆs range a convertible and a shooting brake model. The latter may be unveiled as early as this fall at the Frankfurt Motor Show. If everything goes according to plan, Fisker will also launch a smaller, more affordable hybrid BMW 3-series rival, currently code-named “Project Nina”.

Ακόμα και οι πιο αισιόδοξοι στις τάξεις της Fisker δύσκολα θα περίμεναν πως το τετραθέσιο ηλεκτροκίνητο κουπέ με την ονομασία Karma θα έφτανε τις 3.000 παραγγελίες μέσα σε λιγότερο από δύο χρόνια από τη στιγμή που ανακοινώθηκε η απόφαση για την παραγωγή του. Τα πρώτα Karma αναμένεται να παραδοθούν στους ιδιοκτήτες τους μέχρι το τέλος Ιουλίου, με την τιμή πώλησης να κυμαίνεται λίγο πάνω από τις 70.000 €.

Ποια είναι η γνώμη σας για τα συγκεκριμένα? Ο κουνιάδος μου το οδήγησε στη Νορβηγία πριν λίγες μέρες.

Εμένα πάντως σα σχεδίαση μ αρέσει πολύ.












Edit: Η ονομασία φέρνει λίγο ...... ζωοτροφή. Δηλαδή, κάτι σαν το κάρμα του σκύλου σας.

Review από ένα dealer.

The Fisker road show coame to my dealership and I got to drive a pre-production car over the past two days. The car still needs some fine tuning as far as engine noise and throttle pedal calibration is concerned, but overall I am very positive about the car. It is a very, very heavy car at 5200 pounds, but it does have 4 motors and 600 pounds of batteries in the car. The car is very stiff and has a very sporty feeling through the steering wheel. The ride is remarkable considering the jumbo 22 inch wheels and low profile tires. The car has a triangulated strut tower brace and a very little suspension travel due to how low the car is and the lack of tire/fender gap.
But it handles well for it's size and has plenty of grip to tackle a twisty piece of road.

You can drive the car in full battery mode which is called Stealth mode and this gives the car a silent driving experience and almost a large golf cart feel with instant acceleration and decent overtaking ability in this setting. The Karma also has the Sport mode which you toggle by selecting a paddle on the left side of the steering wheel. This mode adds the 2.0 liter 4 cylinder and is the mode that needs some attention from Fisker on the production models. The engine spins and sounds like a vacuum cleaner and the sound and speed of the engine revving is not in step with the speed of travel. With all 403 horsepower the car feels pretty quick, but not super fast. About par with a Honda Civic Si.

The Karma also has a great kinetic recovery system which I was using instead of the 6 piston/4 piston Brembo brakes every time I needed to slow the car. This system can recharge the car's battery up to 65% charge. In fact during the two days and 90 test drives we did the cars were not plugged in at all. We simply filled the cars up with gas and used this system on the freeway at lunch to drive the cars and recharge the batteries. ery cool. The LCD display shows the battery pack being charged or depleted as well as approx range left. The touch screen was very cool looking and worked very well. Decent stereo, nothing like the Evoque system.

Overall the car is beautiful to look at, practical and fun to drive and with some minor fixes this car will be a huge hit. The car was swamped everywhere we drove with people giving the s up, taking photos and almost running us off the road to get closer to it. At it's price point of $96,000-$110,000 it does not have any real competition as yet. I think I will sell a lot of these cars.

Ο Henry Fisker προέρχεται απ' τη BMW αν δεν κάνω λάθος?

Για το συγκεκριμένο τώρα, χωρίς να το έχω δει από κοντά, θα έλεγα ότι δείχνει αρκετά εντυπωσιακό in real life. Το μόνο που με ξενίζει είναι η τεράστια οθόνη στο εσωτερικό. Δεν το βοηθάει ιδιαίτερα.

Όσο για το πως πηγαίνει στο δρόμο και πως είναι να οδηγείς ένα ηλεκτροκίνητο, ξεκαθαρίζω πως δεν έχω οδηγήσει ποτέ κάτι ηλεκτρικό, και είμαι πολύ περίεργος για το πως είναι!

εμφανισιακά μου αρέσει. και το εσωτερικό του είναι πολύ ωραίο, με ένα πιο απλό τριάκτινο τιμόνι
όμως. δεν κακό!!!ένα ωραίο μοτεράκι να είχε, και θα ήταν σπέσιαλ.
