85% Of All Tablets Are iPads
Σύμφωνα λοιπόν με την ABI Research, η Apple με το iPad κατέχει το 85% της αγοράς, δεύτερη έρχεται η Samsung με μόλις 8% ενώ στη τρίτη θέση ακολουθεί η Archos με 2%. Όλοι οι υπόλοιποι κατασκευαστές tablet κατέχουν το εναπομείναν ποσοστό του 5%.
Ίσως, αν η διαθεσιμότητα του iPad 2 δεν ήταν τόσο περιορισμένη παγκοσμίως τα νούμερα να ήταν ακόμα καλύτερα για την Apple...

It gets worse… for the competition, that is. The next most dominant tablet maker is Samsung, yet they control only 8% of the market. Finally, Archos — European maker of many puffed up PMPs posing as bargain-basement craplets — controls a distant two percent.
The rest of the competition controls market share too small to count. At the end of the day, Apple and three competitors control 95% of the tablet market between them.
That wonΆt last, though. There are a lot more frickinΆ tablets on their way this year.
“Many new entrants are looking to differentiate themselves from the $600+ ASP of the iPad, so low-feature and low-cost designs will become common,” said ABIΆs Jeff Orr. “We expect between 40 and 50 million media tablets to ship worldwide in 2011.”
LetΆs hope at least one of these tablets is actually competitive with the iPad 2. We donΆt want Apple to get complacent designing the iPad 3, do we?
Καταγραφή δεδομένων τοποθεσίας από το iPhone: Myth Busted
Εχτές “αναστατωθήκαμε” από την είδηση πως το iPhone και το iPad 3G καταγράφουν ανά τακτά χρονικά διαστήματα την τοποθεσία του χρήστη σε κρυφό αρχείο στη συσκευή (consolidated.db) ενώ τα δεδομένα του αρχείου διατηρούνται στα backup του iTunes ακόμα και κατά τη μεταφορά σε άλλη συσκευή.
Σύμφωνα με τον Alex Levinson (iOS forensics researcher) δεν υπάρχει λόγος ανησυχίας καθώς τα δεδομένα αυτά αποθηκεύονται με σκοπό να χρησιμοποιηθούν από εσωτερικές εφαρμογές όπως το geo-tagging των φωτογραφιών ενώ η ύπαρξη τους χρονολογείται πολύ νωρίτερα από την κυκλοφορία του iOS 4.x.
Understand what this file is – a log generated by the various radios and sensors located within the device. This file is utilized by several operations on the device that actually is what makes this device pretty “smart”. This file existed in a different form prior to iOS 4, but not in form it is today.
Currently, consolidated.db lies within the “User Data Partition” on the device. This is a logical filesystem that maintains non-system level privileges and where most of the data is stored. When you perform an iOS Backup through iTunes, it is backing up this partition.
Prior to iOS 4, a file called h-cells.plist actually existed in the /root/Library/caches/locationd folder, but with hidden access from other software and applications. h-cells.plist contained much of the same information regarding baseband radio locations as consolidated.db does now, but in Apple Property List format rather than sqlite3.
Through my work with various law enforcement agencies, weΆve used h-cells.plist on devices older than iOS 4 to harvest geolocational evidence from iOS devices.

The change comes a feature introduced in iOS 4 – Mutlitasking and Background Location Services. Apps now have to use AppleΆs API to operate in the background – remember, this is not pure unix weΆre dealing with – it is only a logical multitasking through AppleΆs API. Because of these new APIs and the sandbox design of 3rd party applications, Apple had to move access
to this data.
Either way, it is not secret, malicious, or hidden.
Ο Levinson τονίζει ότι οι χρήστες έχουν την επιλογή ενεργοποίησης ή όχι των location data στα iPhone και τα 3G iPad, μέσα από τις ρυθμίσεις της συσκευής, ωστόσο αυτό δεν αποτρέπει την καταγραφή των δεδομένων στο log file απλώς απαγορεύει τις εφαρμογές από το να χρησιμοποιήσουν τα APIs για να έχουν πρόσβαση στα δεδομένα.
Users still have to approve location access to any application and have the ability to instantly turn off location services to applications inside the Settings menu on their device. That does not stop the generation of these logs, however, it simply prevents applications from utilizing the APIs to access the data.Levinson notes that Apple isnΆt collecting the data – it sits on the users machine in a file that was previously inaccessible. HeΆs checked with networking sniffing tools: the data goes nowhere.
Το άρθρο του Levinson έχει ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον καθώς όχι μόνο εμβαθύνει επάνω στο θέμα της ιδιωτικότητας των δεδομένων που προέκυψε από εχτές αλλά ταυτόχρονα δείχνει για ακόμα μία φορά πως δημιουργούνται από το πουθενά ειδήσεις γύρω από την Apple.

Κυκλοφόρησε το RedSn0w RC14 για το Untethered jailbreak του iOS 4.3.2
H Dev Team έδωσε τέλος στην αναμονή των jailbreakers δίνοντας στην κυκλοφορία τo RedSn0w RC14 που πραγματοποιεί το Untethered jailbreak του iOS 4.3.2.
Το RedSn0w RC14 υποστηρίζει τις παρακάτω συσκευές (όπως θα παρατηρήσετε το iPad 2 ΔΕΝ υποστηρίζεται):
iPhone3GS
iPhone4 (GSM)
iPod touch 3G
iPod touch 4G
iPad 1
Update: Το Redsn0w RC14 το οποίο κυκλοφόρησε πριν από λίγα λεπτά υποστηρίζει και το iPhone 4:
redsn0w rc14 includes the fixed i4 untether from @i0n1c. You can re-run redsn0w rc14 right over the tethered rc13b to transform the i4 JB into an untethered one.

Untrackerd: Διαγραφή των δεδομένων τοποθεσίας από την συσκευή σαςΑρχικό μήνυμα απο Samaro
Μετά το ζήτημα της καταγραφής των δεδομένων τοποθεσίας στα iPhone και iPad 3G (link 1 – link 2 – link 3) και έως ότου έχουμε μία επίσημη απάντηση από την Apple, όσοι από εσάς νιώθετε ότι η ιδιωτικότητα σας απειλείται από το αρχείο καταγραφής δεδομένων τοποθεσίας μπορείτε να χρησιμοποιήσετε το Untrackerd, τη νέα εφαρμογή του Ryan Petrich που κυκλοφόρησε πρόσφατα στο Cydia.
Το untrackerd του Ryan Petrich διατίθεται δωρεάν μέσω του Cydia δωρεάν και εγκαθιστά ένα daemon (πρόγραμμα που τρέχει στο background) και σβήνει το αρχείο consolidated.db στο οποίο και καταγράφονται τα δεδομένα τοποθεσίας που μας έχουν απασχολήσει τις τελευταίες ημέρες.

αν εχετε 3gs και σας ενδιαφερει να αυξησετε την διαρκεια της μπαταριας περαστε την 4.3.3 η οποια και για οσους ενδιαφερονται σπαει κανονικα πλεον.
Μετα απο 2-3 δοκιμές με εχω εκπλαγει.
Αυτη τη στιγμη εχω ενα 3gs στα χερια μου: 32 ώρες χρήσης, ακόμα στο 74% με ανοικτά wifi πάντα και συνολικη ομιλια μια ώρα περιπου.

οτι δουλευει δεν το πειραζουμε... ταδε εφη stamatis και ειναι απολυτα σωστο.
ετσι εμεινα στη 4 καμια αναβαθμιση απο εκει και μετα... τωρα ομως αυτο ειναι δελεαρ... κανονισε Aηφονοχειρουργε να εχεις δικηο
