"I would not say BMW upgraded the engine but rather Downgraded it. You want the pre 99 non-vanos. More power, more torque, flatter torque curve. Very underrated also. Plenty put down 270-280 RWHP. That's about 310-320 hp at the crank assuming a 15% drive train loss"
