Every single one of the AudiΆs responses is as softly smooshy as the appearance of the Q5Άs tail. Judging by its sales performance, this demeanor is exactly what a good number of the segmentΆs buyers want.

The new electric-assist steering is disconcertingly light and lacking in feel, even by the low standards of the class. Around our evaluation loop, the Q5Άs body rolls deeply enough that you start to feel guilty you ever took the car out of its suburban comfort zone. Its slack body control, though, is at least more progressive and predictable than that of the Evoque. And ultimately, this little mush-ball sticks pretty well and weaves through our slalom as quickly as the BMW. The driver is simply never allowed to forget that the Q5 would greatly prefer to be doing something a little less strenuous.
