Formula 1 Diesel ?

Με την διαρκή και αλματώδη ανάπτυξη και εμπλοκή της τεχνολογίας diesel στους μηχανοκίνητους αγώνες, έκανα ένα μικρό ψάξιμο για να δω αν υπάρχουν σκέψεις για την χρήση diesel στον βασιλιά των μηχανοκίνητων σπορ.
Πέτυχα διάφορα άρθρα αλλά στάθηκα σε αυτό, μιας και εμπεριέχει την άποψη και ενός πιλότου (Marc Gené) :

"It sounds so absurd it hardly seems worth entertaining. But it seemed just as unlikely for diesel-powered prototype-class race cars to dominate at Le Mans until Audi did just that. Now Peugeot is following suit with its own high-tech, state-of-the-art diesel race car, the 908 LM, which the French company hopes can do for them what the R10 did for Audi. With over 700 horsepower from an all-aluminum 5.5-liter twelve-cylinder common-rail direct-injection twin-turbo diesel (try saying that three times fast), the sleek cat just might.
Marc Gené came to a different conclusion after driving the 908 for the first time, though: "Having driven the Peugeot, I think that diesel is a feasible route for F1 in the future." Gené is joining the Peugeot team at Le Mans right after he re-signed as a test driver for Scuderia Ferrari, but with a limit on testing imposed by the FIA, he has a little more time on his hands.
Diesels still bear a certain lethargic stigma, but with modern diesel technology seemingly getting closer to gasoline engines with every passing day, some see it as only a matter of time. It would take a massive change in regulation by the FIA, but it would certainly make previous rule-changes like the abolishment of turbos and the switch to V8s seem like mere footnotes in motorsport history."

Επίσης το παρακάτω άρθρο αναφέρει πως ο Μαξ Μόσλευ είχε προτείνει πλάνο για χρήση diesel με κινητήρες 2.200cc όπου το στροφάρισμα θα περιορίζεται στις 1,000 στρ/λεπτό.

"Global Warming critics are getting through to the highest levels of motorsports with F1 cheif Max Mosley recently proposing a plan for F1 cars to be powered by low-revving 2.2-litre turbo diesel engines (rev-limited to only 10,000 RPM) in the next five years.
The news comes from F1 Racing magazine which says that Mr MosleyΆs plan has already been sent to car manufacturers to gauge interest, so far, no manufacturer has publicly commented on the plan. Furthermore, manufacturers such as Ford and Volkswagen which currently have no interest in F1 have also been contacted.

The engines will be required to run on bio-diesel fuel as well as reducing their maximum power output from the current 700kW+ to around 580kW. Teams would also need to insure maximum engine reliability with requirements changing so that each engine would need to last five races without being changed (currently the engines only need to last 2 races)....

Βέβαια είναι παλιό άρθρο, του 2007.


Τα πετρελαιοκίνητα Audi και Peugeot κυριάρχησαν στο Λε Μαν τα τελευταία χρόνια.
Βέβαια δεν είναι άμεσα συγκρίσιμο με την F-1, μιας και οι απαιτήσεις απο αξιοπιστία είναι απείρως μεγαλύτερες στον αγώνα αντοχής Λε Μαν.
Στην F-1 που είναι περισσότερο αγώνας ταχύτητας παρά αντοχής, τα ζητούμενα είναι δύναμη και έκρηξη σε όλα τα κομμάτια της πίστας.
Τα οποία με τις υπάρχουσες διαφορές βενζίνη-diesel, τις παρέχει η βενζίνη (απ΄όσο ξέρω).
Υποθέτω πως θα αλλάξει ο χαρακτήρας της Formula 1 αν γίνουν αυτά πραγματικότητα. Δεν λέω προς το καλό ή όχι. Εξ΄άλλου όλα κρίνονται εκ του αποτελέσματος και πως το αντιλαμβάνεται ο καθένας.
