Description

To view 30 HD photos and video of this car and many others, please visit our website.

We are extremely proud to offer this fabulous Miura for sale, probably the best example of such a car for sale anywhere in the world.

Even greatness can be improved upon. In 1968, Lamborghini introduced its updated Miura P400S, which featured a V-12 with revised camshafts that was good for a power output of over 370 horsepower and was mounted on a stiffened chassis.
This model was, in turn, followed by the epically exciting, ultimate production Miura, the P400SV, which was first shown at Geneva in 1971.
The SV offered even greater performance and improved handling, and it boasted 385 horsepower, with separate lubrication for the engine and gearbox, a limited-slip differential, completely revised suspension, and a leather interior. The rear track was widened five inches, to accommodate wider wheels, which necessitated the Dino-like “flaring” of the rear body panels. Most menacingly of all were the distinctive laid-back headlamps, which lost their “eyelashes” in favour of the masculine plain black surrounds.

With a top speed of 180 mph, it is no wonder that numerous owners of earlier Miuras elected to have their automobiles upgraded to this ultimate specification.

The P400S offered here is an original United Kingdom-delivery example that was supplied to its first owner, rock legend Rod Stewart, by Lamborghini Concessionaires Ltd. of Alie Street, London.
A copy of its original records, which were kept by Derek Hopkins of said dealership, is included in the file. Also included in the file is a copy of the original delivery sheet, which notes the car as having right-hand drive, factory air conditioning, and seatbelts.
The file also has a copy of a photo of StewartΆs then girlfriend, model Dee Harrington, with two Miuras, one of which is an S with this carΆs original British registration, JLL 831K.

The car passed from Rod Stewart through to owners in Wiltshire, Kent, and Cambridge. In 1976, the Miura was acquired by Clive Hugo Nagel, and then it passed to Michael Baker, of Horley, in April 1983. The car was then acquired by the present British caretaker, who has retained ownership of it for the past two decades.
As such, this Miura has known ownership history since new.

The current owner selected to transform this car into the SV specification, with the necessary front and rear clam modifications, suspension upgrades, and rear lights. Importantly, the carΆs bulkhead, engine, and chassis all bear correct numbers for the original S, and they are original to the car.

More recently, the Miura has been restored in its SV configuration by noted marque specialist Colin Clarke Engineering.
Suspension, steering, brakes, and hubs were all rebuilt to concours condition, and all components have been properly and correctly finished.
An exhaustive overhauling of the wiring, dashboard instruments, supply lines, and tyres was undertaken, and the steering and suspension have all been laser-aligned.
The body was beautifully refinished in the factory colour of Blu Notte, and it has black leather upholstery of the correct pattern and correct carpets.
The Miura also has its original front windscreen and side glass, which remain in excellent condition.
The SV conversion and recent restoration work undertaken has cost approximately £100,000.

It really does need to be seen to be appreciated, it look like a brand new Miura.

This Miura is beautifully presented and ready for show. It is a rare configuration that has the highest possible performance and the most beautiful colours.
It is as exciting today as it must have been for its original owner, “Rod the Mod”, back in 1971.

The car is presented with a beautiful file, showing many photos of its restoration along with invoices and documents, including the original bill of sale.

Please note, some of the photos used are from a previous photoshoot.
This car deserves the best weather for us to do our usual photos, so they will be done as soon as we can.

We welcome international enquiries and can arrange shipping anywhere in the world.

Description

Although the S version of the Miura came out in 1969, it was not radically different from the original P400. Bob Wallace, Lamborghini's development test driver wanted to explore more of the huge performance potential of the Miura, and built his own test bed car which ended up being brutally fast. This 'Jota' was so cutting-edge that only a small number of the improvements incorporated in it made their way in to the later Miura SV. The Jota was destroyed in 1972 in a crash being driven by someone whose abilities fell far behind the car's. Five production SV's were partially 'Jota-ised' but this was mainly cosmetic.
This Miura S was supplied new into Japan and has lived there since. The last (fifth) owner set out to produce a car as close to the original Jota specification as possible, and there is a comprehensive photo record and bills on file for over £365,000.
We have taken this work a significant stage further, resulting in a show-stopping Miura which bears the closest inspection from even the most accomplished automotive engineer. This is almost certainly the most visually striking Miura, and the most exhilarating to drive, currently available anywhere.

A Greek Gift: The Aristotle Onassis 1969 Lamborghini Miura P400S

03 December 2012

The 1966 hit ΅In the Days of King OttoΆ might not have topped the charts outside Greece, but it was a big success for the rally-driving singer Stamatis Kokotas. In the early 70s, Kokotas received a present from his friend and fan, the Greek shipping millionaire Aristotle Onassis...

It was a metallic brown 1969 Lamborghini Miura P400S, the car you see here, and one which will be auctioned by the British house Coys at its 4 December, London sale.
If any car could personify the jet-setting lifestyle of the time, it was the Miura (https://www.classicdriver.com/en/cars/lamborghini/miura). Launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1966, one of BertoneΆs finest-ever designs (it was from the pen of Marcello Gandini) could stop traffic in the best streets of New York, London or Paris.

Ironically for a company noted for its refusal to compete in motorsport until recent times, the companyΆs engineering team of Gian Paolo Dallara, Paolo Stanzani and Bob Wallace created a mid-engined supercar akin to a contemporary Ferrari Le Mans entry. But it took Maranello until 1973 - after Miura production had finished - before its equivalent (the 365 GT4 BB) went on sale.
With a transverse-mounted, 3.9-litre V12 producing around 375bhp in P400S configuration, the car had the performance to match its low-slung, striking looks – although it would take a brave man to use it to the full. Kokotas could well have been such a person, as he was a highly capable rally driver and enthusiast for fast cars, running an extensive collection in the 1970s, all funded by his singing career.
https://www.classicdriver.com/sites/default/files/styles/article_full/public/import/articlesv2/images/_uk/16530/Onassis_Lamborghini_Miura_05pop.jpg?itok=C95uajffh ttps://www.classicdriver.com/sites/default/files/styles/article_half/public/import/articlesv2/images/_uk/16530/Onassis_Lamborghini_Miura_06pop.jpg?itok=VJVtIMR3h ttps://www.classicdriver.com/sites/default/files/styles/article_half/public/import/articlesv2/images/_uk/16530/Onassis_Lamborghini_Miura_07pop.jpg?itok=9KjSd7Sz

Onassis was both a friend of Kokotas and a fan of his music. It was typical of the man worth countless millions that he should share his riches with a likeminded artistic Greek.
As a P400S, this car benefited from upgrades such as electric windows and an improved engine. It also had the optional air-conditioning – essential in such a hot climate. Unique to it, though, are the engraved alloy air vents, passenger grab handle, gear lever, electric window switches and ignition switch surrounds. The steering wheel boss also has further bespoke etchings.

The well-known ΅eyelashesΆ around the headlamps were made from alloy, and underneath the unique-shaped grille sits a battery of driving lights.
This car, clearly, means business.

Today, the 'barn-find (https://www.classicdriver.com/en/magazine/tags/barn-finds)' car with a matching-numbers engine (straight from display as an exhibit at the Lamborghini (https://classicdriver.com/en/cars/lamborghini) factory) is one of the remaining Miuras yet to be restored. It comes to the UK for the Coys sale after some 42 years in storage in the underground car park of the Athens Hilton.
Metallic brown with tan leather, and an association with one of the richest men in the world, it encapsulates the spirit of the time. It's estimated at GBP 320,000 - 370,000 and will require further investment to restore it to its former glory. But imagine the satisfaction as the project takes shape and the completed car takes a bow at Pebble Beach or an ownersΆ tour. As Onassis once put it: “After a certain point, money is meaningless. It ceases to be the goal. The game is what counts.”

Since a long time, the credit of designing the Miura almost entirely went to Marcello Gandini, who replaced Giorgetto Giugiaro at Bertone. Giugiaro left Bertone for Ghia in December 1965. He had the time to draw the basic lines of the Miura. Giugiario recently said that 70% of the Miura design is his. Anyway, what is important is the result: the Miura is a true masterpiece. La piu bella. Designer Piero Stroppa (who worked at Bertone from 1965 to 1970) assisted these two designers at Betone on the Miura project.
