General Overview
Brilliance China is one of the leading automotive manufacturers in China through its subsidiaries, associated companies and joint ventures in the PRC. During 2009, the Group disposed of its loss-making Zhonghua sedan business. Starting from January 2010, the Group's operating segments are divided primarily into the manufacture and sale of minibuses and automotive components. Its commercial vehicle brands include "JinBei" and "Granse" minibuses.
In 2003, the Group established a joint venture with BMW, namely BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd., to produce BMW 3-series and 5-series sedans in China. BMW Brilliance also commenced production and sale of BMW SUVs in the PRC in early 2012. The Group is also engaged in the manufacture of diesel engines and gasoline engines for use in minibuses, sedans, SUVs and light duty trucks and automotive components, including but not limited to window moldings, strips, axles, stamped parts, etc.
In 2012, the Group sold 82,506 minibuses while the BMW joint venture, BMW Brilliance, sold 160,849 BMW sedans and SUVs.
To further support its goal as the leading automotive manufacturer in the PRC, the Group has also established strategic partnerships or working relationships with leading global automotive companies, such as Toyota, Mitsubishi, FEV Motorentechnik Gmbh.
In 2012, the Group achieved revenue (being primarily those derived from the minibus business) of approximately RMB5.916 billion. The net profits contributed to
the Group by the BMW joint venture amounted to RMB 2.325 billion.
